Ventspils lies in north-western Latvia on the shores of the Baltic Sea where the Venta River joins the sea. Ventspils has developed into a major trading port. You can see the Castle of the Livonian Order and several churches in the town. The beautiful, clean beach and surrounding forests are perfect for relaxation. At the Ventspils Open-Air Museum of Maritime Fishing you can see fishermen's houses, fishing boats and tools. There is also a windmill and a narrow gauge railway engine running in the territory of the museum. The boat "Hercogs Jekabs" will take you on a river cruise down the Venta Riverto the mouth of the river.
